Doha is a city where Friday’s mean brunch. The Trader’s Vic is one of several restaurants at the Hilton Doha, doing brunch. Today, hubby and I are trying out Hilton Doha’s new Asian fusion brunch.
Asian Fusion Brunch at the Trader’s Vic restaurant
This is our second visit to Traders Vic at the Hilton Doha. We had tried out the a la Carte lunch menu and thought the food was tasty but sparse. As was the the restaurant. Consequently we were interested in trying the Asian fusion brunch at Trader’s Vic. Hilton Doha’s Asian fusion brunch concept is a sit down three course set menu priced at QR295 including selected drinks.
The eclectic vibe in décor, food and great views across the Hilton’s beach and ocean area is inviting. So hubby manages to get a table with a view and the friendly, attentive staff serves us free flowing mocktails and water. As we sip our mocktails, there is live music (which can get quite loud) and professional dancers doing a salsa.
Tuna poke, salmon ceviche and shrimp salad starters
We are served starters which include melt in the mouth tuna poke, salmon ceviche and shrimp salad starters.
In our experience, sadly, a few very high-end hotel restaurants have managed to get raw tuna dishes wrong by using poor cuts of tuna that you end up having to chew through. Certainly punter’s like me notice and usually don’t bother going back (assuming we haven’t sent the dish back, surprised to be served such a thing. I won’t mention names here……)
Hubby enjoys the Beef gyoza with a spicy coriander dip which is a delight although I find the crab and artichoke dip is too cheesy. That is to say that I’m more of the crab and artichoke and less cheese type!
Seabass, prawns, beef tenderloin & USDA Angus beef
The main course offerings in this Asian fusion brunch are very eclectic with five separate plates of food which all arrive on the table.
All the dishes are a feast for our eyes. Even better, we enjoy the variety of flavours which are authentically spot on. The Thai prawn curry is delicately flavored, with jasmine rice soaking up the curry sauce. Black Angus fillet is medium rare and juicy and melts in our mouth. As a result, hubby’s knife glides through the beef, served with twice cooked potatoes and asparagus is all that’s needed.
Hubby is a pescaterian and the soy marinated seabass is scrumptious, with buttery, coarsely mashed potatoe quenelles. Although my favourite is the beef and prawn teriyaki due to the oodles of flavor. However not enough teriyaki prawns to share between us!
After all that, we manage to nibble on the pad Thai noodles that are a lovely filler.
Coconut pineapple cheesecake & fruits for dessert
The Asian fusion smorgasbord of Trader’s Vic brunch leaves us feeling very satisfied. We enjoy the simple pineapple coconut cheesecake with slices of varied melons to share. Of course, the tried and tested, deliciously creamy, marriage of coconut and pineapple works.
In short, Hilton’s Asian fusion brunch on this visit, is a lovely food experience. The views towards the ocean transport you to a Polynesian island (be sure you enjoy loud island music!) However, this is a food experience which we will be happy to repeat.
