January means a Peckish Londoner escaping from long dark nights and grey drizzly London sky and heading to Qatar’s capital for some winter sun and food including fine dining in Doha.
The trouble with some of the edgy vibe in Doha’s newest restaurants is often a lack of consistency aimed as they are at instagrambaility. Who cares if the tuna ceviche is chewy as long as you got that photo right?
Fine Dining in Doha at the K108 Hotel with their Moroccan chef
It’s Thursday and we are looking forward to an evening of fine dining in Doha. At first glance, the K108 Boutique hotel seems like an unlikely place for a memorable food experience. The hotel is located off the Corniche, near Souq Waqif, towards Doha’s older neighborhoods. This does not put us off! The chef at the Yum Yum Restaurant is Moroccan, a country with a long history and culture of French cooking and fine dining. As a result, we hope not to be disappointed tonight!
Fine dining with a view
The waiters settle us into our table offering views across the Doha skyline lighting up the night sky. We are served complimentary warm sesame rolls with a black olive tapenade and softened butter. So far so good.
Salmon with white asparagus & seafood salad to start
Tonight, hubby and I are going for different fine dining menus. I’m ordering from the a la carte, and he’s going to try the ‘chef set menu’. This starts with pumpkin soup, followed by seafood salad, then mixed seafood with vegetables and finally a pistachio strawberry cake for dessert.
My smoked salmon with white asparagus starter is just right for the evening. The Asparagus is perfectly cooked with the salmon nicely complimented by lemon butter. The small vegetable parcels wrapped in a crisp pastry deliver a marriage of textures making this a delicate and delightful starter. Hubby’s seafood salad is light and full of flavour.
Then there’s roasted chicken and mixed seafood
Our choice of mains course is exquisitely presented and tastes as good as they look! Hubby’s mixed seafood consists of pan fried salmon, hamour and sea bass, which flakes effortlessly. The calamari and vegetable tempura is light and crispy rendering it simply delicious.
Whilst, my main course of roasted chicken, just wilted spinach and morel sauce is just right. Potatoes and carrot tempura are all that is needed for this dish to be filling. This is fine dining for our eyes and stomach.
Finally dessert!
Our meal so far has been a lovely culinary fine dining experience. The final pièce de resistance for this evening comes in the form of desserts simply described as “pistachio strawberry cake” and apple Mille-feuille with vanilla creme.
We are blown away by the artistry of the dessert, which would be very comfortable in some of the best fine dining restaurants in London.
Hubby is served strawberry mousse and jelly cake ensconced in a crisp strawberry chocolate shell beside a quenelle of strawberry ice-cream amid light meringue straws. Whilst my simple apple Mille-feuille is delectable with a lightness that finishes the meal very nicely!
Fine dining in Doha at the K108 hotel is one of the few occasions when our meal is both delightful and filling and our wallet isn’t emptied. At Yum Yum restaurant, we get the photos and get blown away by excellent food and service with a smile.
